The political romance between Donald Trump, the US President and that of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is solidifying by the day as Mr Trump shielded Putin when asked over the allegation of killings perpetrated by the Russian state.

According to an interview with Fox News and a report from BBC, Mr Trump said, “there are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers.

What do you think? Our country’s so innocent?”

Mr Trump admitted his respect for the Russian President, Putin, and hoped to build an even stronger relationship if terrorism must kiss the dust.

He said, he respects the Russian President, he further went ahead to solicit help from Mr Putin to fight against the so-called ‘Islamic terrorism’.

According to the interview, as reported by the BBC, the US President said, “I do respect him… that doesn’t mean I’m going to get along with him.”

“I say it’s better to get along with Russia than not. And if Russia helps us in the fight against ISIS, the so-called Islamic State, which is a major fight, and Islamic terrorism all over the world -  that’s a good thing. Will I get along with him? I have no idea” he added.

While President Trump and Putin spoke through a phone conversation last Saturday, meeting each other is not yet on the cards, but both presidents agreed to keep personal contacts.
