Stories i never told anybody: Part 3 (continued)

“Don’t even think of anything foolish” Walex was afraid she might react. She didn’t say a word to either of us.

“Come on, Halima, it’s been ages since you saw this boy last” he tried to lessen the grave moment.

“Is that supposed to make me feel better!” she yelled

“Come on, don’t you be all yelling up”

“This is my house, okay! I yell when I want to yell, and when you pay the next rent you decide but as long as I do I shall talk the way I wish to talk.

I just stood there looking at her. She has definitely changed from the person I knew her back in high school, completely changed.

“Hey, Halims, how do you do?”

“Well, it’s going to be better if you tell me what the heck you are doing in my house!”

I knew she was upset and with each sentence, she reminds of the pot of soup in her hand.

“You know, Halims……merry…..” she interrupted

“Tom, you don’t get it, do you?” she finally found a spot for the pot and walex heaved a sigh. “Walex is married and can handle his business

“Right from school, Halims, you have been a pain in the neck but I’m not going to let you make things worse than they are already” I notified her

“Oh, so this is what it’s all about. This is why you came here, Hun? Oh so what are you going to do”

“I won’t do a thing, Halims. It’s not about me, its all about you. You have to do what you need to do in order to do what you want to do”

“wowwww that’s smooth, boy” Walex was clapping for me

“Shut up Wale!” Halima thundered

I picked my jacket and made for the door.

“Keep moving, Tom, get stepping” she ordered

“You know you got a lot of growing up to do, and I’m only telling you this because I love both of you

“I’m 26years old, like two years older than you, I have raised a kid, working to support this family, and do I look like someone who needs your lectures on how to keep a home?”

“Can I get some panadol, please?” Walex spoke up

“This isn’t the nurse’s office. I mean what’s wrong with you?” she asked him but he didn’t answer.

Oh boy, this guy is not the man of the house, not at all!

I looked at Halima with genuine compassion. This girl was troublesome right from school yet somehow she was still admired by a lot of people because even in the depth of her insanity she was super intelligent and had feelings. Now, as far as I can her, she’s become nothing but a dictator. Never underestimate the power of a woman, Shaggy was right!

“You know, Halims, " i spoke with true feelings of sympathy" very contrary to your thoughts, I just wish the best for both of you. If I come here and just fall into a nice smooth chat and leave as if everything is alright, then I will be a treacherous liar. Look at you; is this how you want to bring up your kids? You want them to grow up seeing you disrespecting their father and all yelling up? I mean it’s not about giving birth to kids; anybody out there can do it. But there’s another word for it-responsibility. You need to let up vegetation out of which fruits of joy and not sorrow will spring up”

“You have been reading too many books, boy” Walex smiled

“I guess its working for him” Halima said and we all burst into a short laughter. It didn’t last for more than 10 seconds and she was back frowning.

“I shall tell you something, Tom”

“Yes, anything”

“If you come here making trouble another time, I shall go to your house and beat you in front of your mother, and that will be all you get for Christmas. Now get stepping!”

I smiled

“Merry Christmas, Walex”

“Merry Christmas, boy”

I closed the door behind me and stepped into the streets as I headed home.
